Get Answers From Millions Of Real People.?

October 25th, 2009

Hello, These symptoms started about 2 or 3 months ago, after walking for several miles.
I am 64, and have shortness of breath that comes on once or twice a day, as well as coughing up flem. I’ve been to the heart doctor and he says my heart is fine. Nothing has showed up on my chest x rays.
I have been exposed to asbestus in my work, years ago. I have an appointment with a lung doctor in a couple of weeks.
Anyone have any ideas?
Asbestosis and mesothelioma, come to mind, but I was told those should have shown up on the chest x ray from my family doctor.

Because the FDA Fen Phen?

October 25th, 2009

Millions of Americans were prescribed Fen-Phen first fenfluramine (Pondimin) and dexfenfluramine (Redux) withdrawn from the market in 1997.
) Fen-Phen (combined, and fenfluramine (Pondimin) and a connection to the case, dexfenfluramine (Redux), used alone, have been associated with serious medical complications.
These complications include: heart valve disease (damaged heart valves), PPH (primary pulmonary hypertension) and complications neuropsychological (memory loss, behavioral changes, depression or mood swings and psychosis).
The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has approved the use of two components of the Fen-Phen (fenfluramine and phentermine) and production-related drug dexfenfluramine (Redux) manufacturers research the efficacy and safety.
However, the FDA has not approved the combined use of these drugs or prolonged.
Even if the FDA approves the initial marketing of a drug, and there are indications (diseases or symptoms for which the drug can be used) is not regulated, prescribing practices. Therefore, drugs that can be sued by individual physicians, in their discretion to symptoms or diseases, not out by the FDA (-label use).
Off-label use is common and necessary part of medical practice. Pending approval by the FDA for each indication and limit unnecessarily delaying the efforts of doctors' to treat their patients. In several cases, the approval will never come, because it depends on complex, lengthy and costly effort by the pharmaceutical industry to prove that a drug effective and safe for any indication.
If doctors have discovered that a drug is useful in an off-label use, I'm writing in this way, regardless of the lack of FDA approval.
Unless you believe that FDA approval is an increase in prescribing practices of doctors (and higher profits that at least offset the costs that lead to hospitalization), there is no incentive for pharmaceutical companies to seek approval for additional indications.
Especially in view of Fen-Phen, the doctors the drugs used singly or in combination with the available data indicate that it rests securely. No information available suggests that the prolonged use has been problematic.
Since conflicting data were available, changes in prescribing practices of physicians and exercise more caution and discrimination.
The FDA has intervened and asked that the two drugs, fenfluramine (Pondimin) and dexfenfluramine (Fastin) will be withdrawn from the market, where there is sufficient evidence collected to show the serious risks associated with these products.
The other component of fen-phen, phentermine (Fastin), has not taken off the market because they show that with the serious illness, patients had to be placed on the possible development.
E 'was subsequently shown that the American Home Products, Wyeth) were aware of a higher incidence of serious complications associated with their products (the part of fen-phen fenfluramine and dexfenfluramine, however, suspended or minimize such data, and continue to aggressively market agent, despite the information that led to an alternative measure should be.

What Would You Do?

October 23rd, 2009

My name is Fiona and my best friend has cancer. Its called Malignant Mesothelioma. It is extremely deadly, really rare, and most people only live 24 months after diagnosis. But because it took her doctors so long to diagnose, they are predicting she only has three months. I have known this person almost my whole life and I love her so so much.
I want to do something really special for her, something that will show her how much i love her and how much i have appreciated my life with her. This news is fairly new to me, so i don’t have a real clear idea of what i should do. What would you do?

Is There A Good Or Safe Way To Remove Asbestos That Insulates Pipes Leading From Your Boiler / Heater?

October 23rd, 2009

I know you have to have a company in hazmat suits come out and they seal the area off and work with a machine that draws in the air and fibers, but isn’t there still some residue in the air and on things that can be dangerous? I’m worried I should sell the house and not live here myself during or after the renovation. I’m worried about mesothelioma… lung cancer from inhaling bits of asbestos. So far, I’ve just not touched the asbestos… hoping not stirring it up would be safer, but now I have problems with my boiler and will have to have it replaced, which means dealing with the asbestos problem. sigh.

Paxil Directly Linked to birth defects

October 22nd, 2009

Recent studies have shown that increasing the use of Paxil during pregnancy increases the risk of birth defects. In December 2005, the Food and Drug Administration has delayed drug Paxil from a class C drug to a Class D. A class C drug is one that has been shown to harm animals, and a class D is a drug that has been shown to harm the human fetus. According to the FDA, conducted a Swedish study, which demonstrated that women have Paxil during the first trimester (first twelve weeks) of pregnancy were two times higher risk of having a child with a form of birth defects than other Women who have other form of antidepressants antidepressants or not.
Some of the damage caused by malformations or the use of Paxil before or during pregnancy due to potential heart defects are children and persistent pulmonary hypertension in newborns. During the first trimester of pregnancy, the heart of the child develops. According to medical experts, wasted valuable time during the week, three to seven, because when the heart is divided into four separate chambers.
In addition to infant heart defects, there are many other potential errors that can result from taking Paxil during pregnancy. If you have been or are currently taking Paxil and are pregnant, you should discontinue the use, ask your doctor and seek legal advice immediately.

Does Someone Who Suffer From Cancer Become A More Agressive Person?

October 21st, 2009

My dad suffers from a malignant type cancer (mesothelioma), and he is on chemotherapy. It seems that everyday he becomes more angry and more agressive towards everybody. Is this due to his cancer or chemo? My mom and I are deeply saddened by his condition, but everyday he screams and yells at us for no reason. Is there something else that we can do to help him? I feel even more sorry for my mom because she is the one who receives the most insults by my dad. I see her cry everyday because of that. What can we do?

Can We Sue For Mental Anguish? Please Help!! 10 Points!!?

October 21st, 2009

My mother and I have essentially put our lives on hold to take care of my terminally ill grandfather. We have family members who don’t want to respect my mother because she is disabled (they stated it to the police when we had to call the police on them). I had to call the police and file a report against one family member who attempted to attack my mother, and ended up fighting me. They’ve come over our house (which is actually my grandfather’s house but we live with him to take care of him) and have refused to leave. The police again had to be called to make them leave. They have called DHR on us claiming abuse (which was proven to be unfounded), they then called DHR again saying we were murdering my grandfather by over-medicating him with morphine (which was also found to be untrue). They then took me and my mother to court, but my mother was granted guardianship despite what they said. We had to pay money for a lawyer for this event as well. The court said they are allowed to visit between the hours of 10am-8pm. When they come in, they sneak in food to give to my grandfather (we’ve caught them), and then his hands/feet swell and WE have to answer to the nurse. They leave the door open for one another, so we don’t know who is coming in and out of our own house.
Can we sue them for mental anguish? It’s hard enough taking care of someone who is 85, has lung cancer, AND mesothelioma, then we have to worry about this. What can we do?
